Best place to set a stop loss

I was just trying to figure out the best place to set a stop loss

typically I like to place them at 1% of my total capital, sometimes maybe 2%. So if I'm trading on 100k I would place my stop at $1,000 or maybe $2,000 on each trade.

If I'm lucky enough to make good gains I will increase my stop loss to maybe 2 or 3 percent. As I make more gains I increase the stop loss. You never want to risk your principal but you can risk some of your profit.
